Mono 2.10.5 and MonoDevelop 2.6 now live

Posted on 2011-09-22 18:51

It's been a long time coming, but Mono 2.10 (specifically 2.10.5) is now available for all users of badgerports. Along with it comes MonoDevelop 2.6. Please note there are several things to bear in mind - this upload removes all support for .NET 1.1, makes ASP.NET 4.0 the default version in Apache, and breaks a few apps (including F-Spot, for which the F-Spot PPA version should be used). Major leaps like this are often painful, and whilst I've tested as much as possible, some issues may have crept by. Don't forget to mail me with observed issues.

This is also an opportunistic time to remind you of the donation registry where you can show your support for continued work on badgerports. Your continued support is important to the future of this service, especially for Ubuntu 12.04 when it rolls around.

Mono 2.10.1 testing now in progress

I am now hard at work getting 2.10.1 packages, and MonoDevelop 2.6 Beta 3 packages, into good condition for badgerports. Work is progressing, and bugs being found. Users should be warned that there are a few usability changes which using these packages involves - including that some packages in Lucid will not be recompilable as is, and even a few upstream projects (such as MonoDevelop) will need patching. Keep your eyes posted here for some release notes.

Please also note that I've had to disable some of the bling on the site - the TopUp jQuery library I use to handle the IFrames does not work on recent versions of Firefox. If you can fix this behaviour (in the latest upstream version of TopUp), please get in touch!

badgerports-throwback is live - switch now to keep .NET 1.1

Read the news post below this one. Development towards Mono 2.10.1 packages is now in its advanced stages, meaning it'll soon arrive on badgerports - so if you don't want all the latest stuff, and are using .NET 1.1 in production, then now is the time to switch to the throwback PPA!
